What a terrible choice, do you know how much Mustang you can get for that? (Just kidding, I have one and love it!)

So I fell in love with the twins when they first came out, but couldn't justify getting one until recently... The two big items my daily HAS to be able to carry are my snowboard and my mountain bike. Took my board to a scion dealer, and it actually fits quite well with the rear seats folded. The big issue is my mountain bike. Roof racks work, but they're expensive. The trunk rack I currently have won't work on the 86's trunk (the trunk lid is too small). Hitches look bad when not in use... Technically people have squeezed bikes in the trunk, but I wouldn't want to put one in after a muddy run.

And then I saw the rear tow hooks.

Kinja'd!!!

Basically, you weld up a bar lengthwise to a bolt with the same thread as the tow hook. Pop the covers off, screw in the two bars. Attach fork mount to one bar, and a tire mount to the other. Clean install, keeps bike away from glass / paint, mounts securely, and the whole rack can be thrown in the corner of the trunk without taking up much space.

Holy shit I want one now.

EDIT: forgot to mention... congrats!

Very nice! Yeah, I had to do a bit of self convincing that it made sense. But I figure, I'm young and don't have kids... so now is the time for a sports car! haha First add on will be a set of spare wheels and snow tires before winter (Damn you, Illinois!) and then a roof rack not long after, because I want to get a fishing kayak.

And thank you!

Yeah, I'm generally not one for red cars and was a little skeptical going to check this one out... but then I saw it in person! haha

I wish Scion had a blue comparable to WRB, but oh well. This thing looks amazing in person.

I would take the Scion badges and put Toyota ones, but man Im liking your car. Great choice!

That's exactly my thought process. Young, no wife / kids. Why not? I already daily drove a Miata for a while, so this would be a step up!

First addition for me would be the bike rack, then snow tires before winter comes around. Arizona here. 120+ inches of snow each year at 7,000 ft above sea level (it's not all desert here!). Definitely the best place to own a low, RWD sports car.

Only thing holding me back right now is cost. Gotta pay for school, and sell my current daily before I can consider buying a FRS/BRZ (pronounced "Furs-Burs").

Yeah, I was thinking that too. Probably pull off the Scion/FR-S badges and just put two Toyota badges were the Scion ones were

So I take it you're in Flag? I'm a 25 year native of Arizona, just moved to Illinois in January to work for ZF. lol I grew up in Mesa and last lived in Snottsdale. haha

It's a super capable car, you'll love it! Really forgiving on the stock tires as well.

06/23/2014 at 23:39

Kinja'd!!!1

my advice on that is to buy them off the classified section of the ft86club forums. People dump stock wheels and tires for $300-400/set.

Nice. Although I was kinda thinking of getting some cheaper aftermarket (likely used) just so I could get something a little wider than stock. We will see though

Gonna be a full time resident of Flag pretty soon (officially moving this weekend). Currently living in Mesa and working in Scottsdale. ;) Originally from Kentucky though, so sort of similar to Illinois.

Picture got Kinja'd.

Haven't been to clear creek yet but I've been meaning to. Love camping in Oak Creek Canyon (haven't been since the fire though). Four Peaks is always fun, and of course Tortilla Flat! Really wanna go to Kaibab, up near the north rim (even though it's pretty much southwestern Utah at that point). This picture sums up why I want to go:

Kinja'd!!!1

Oh shit there's a Pho place nearby?! I've only gone to Noodle's Ranch at Scottsdale and Thomas (it's close to work). Is it at the Asian marketplace? There's a Chinese restaurant there with great Boba slushies (can't remember the name of it right now though). I think it's a pretty great area. Unfortunately I'm out in Arkansas right now with work, and when I get back to AZ on Monday I'll be living in Flagstaff. Hahaha

AZ actually has a lot of good Pho, and food in general. But yeah, Un-Pho-Gettable is at the Mekong Asian Market on Dobson and Main/Apache. Also, if you've never been to Lee's Sandwiches... best. bahn mi. ever!

I miss so many restaurants in AZ... Lee's, Un-Pho-Gettable, Pete's Fish n Chips, Brat Haus, Senor Taco, Macayos... Ok, I need to stop talking. This is making me depressed. lol

Wow, you weren't kidding about the sets going for $300-400! Definitely going to pick some up and throw some winter tires on there. The narrower width of the stock wheels should be great for the snow.

Another thing to take note of is those same wheels will sell for about $5-600 on craigslist. I may or may not have bought and sold a few sets at this point ;)

Kinja'd!!! Decay buys too many beaters > Chris_K_F drives an FR-Slow
06/24/2014 at 12:17

Kinja'd!!!1

I like the look of those Prodrives! I ended up going with RPF1s as my track/autocross/enthusiastic summer driving wheel and the stock wheels and tires for hooning and cruising (I'm running a bit too much camber up front for standard highway cruising without added tire wear, hence the two sets)

Kinja'd!!! Chris_K_F drives an FR-Slow > Decay buys too many beaters
06/24/2014 at 12:19

Kinja'd!!!0

Yeah, I will likely keep this set of stock wheels too. I'm going to need to find a good storage solution, because apartments are not ideal for having two sets of wheels/tires in at a time. lol I've got awhile until that's an issue though. But yeah, the Prodrives look great.

Got a porch? That's where I store my spares, though I totally agree, apartment living is not exactly the best environment for gear-heads.

Nope. :( Luckily, I work with a bunch of car guys (a benefit of working for one of the largest automotive companies in the world) so I can probably get one of them to let me borrow some garage space. lol

God, now you're making me miss AZ as well... can't wait to get out of Arkansas. And yeah I'm like a 5-10 minute walk to the Asian market.

06/24/2014 at 13:44

Kinja'd!!!0

I actually have never been to George and Dragon, even though I went to high school right by it. Yeah, I miss AZ a lot. Especially mountains. All the best activities are done on mountains! Rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking... touge. lol

Kinja'd!!! cabarne4 > Chris_K_F drives an FR-Slow
06/24/2014 at 14:21

Kinja'd!!!1

We've got like 15 Miatas at my house... I know literally every corner between Apache Junction and Tortilla Flat (and even all the way to Roosevelt, including the gravel stretch).

But yeah George and Dragon is good. Good beer, good English food (if there is such a thing). Because I'm right by the Asian market, I can just take the light rail all the way there. Takes maybe 45 minutes (versus a 20-30 minute drive), but beats having to have a DD.

nice! I never see Mazdaspeed6's. Do you have anything done to it?

I'd love to get in on the miata thing, but I'm 6'2" and it just doesnt work for me.

I should be at pavs this weekend. Can you send PMs on here?

Kinja'd!!! cabarne4 > DanZman
06/28/2014 at 21:21

Kinja'd!!!0

Only a cold air intake, a short shift kit, and a stage 2 clutch.

And 6'2" is nothing. One of my friends is around 6'10" and he's driven mine a few times. I know a lot of people in the 6'2" to 6'4" range who drive them all the time. Remove a chunk of foam out of the bottom of the seat ("foamectomy") and you're good to go!

Unfortunately I'm still stuck in Arkansas. :( Driving back to AZ tomorrow and Monday. No clue if you can send PMs on here, but chatting in the comments works well enough. Next Saturday I'll be driving back to AZ from a couple day trip to San Diego. Might get back in time for Pavs, I'll have to see.
